NGER (National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act 2007The NGER act was designed with the objective of creating a single national reporting framework, as well as to underpin the CPRS (Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme.
Does your organisation need to report under the NGER legislation?
How are you currently capturing the data associated with your organisations emissions?
Were you aware that spreadsheets are not an acceptable format for capturing and storing your environmental data?
Ndevr has developed an NGER solution that runs within your existing ERP, without duplicating data, or significantly impacting your staff.
CPRS (Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme)
The CPRS commences on 1 July, 2011 - It is designed to put a cost on carbon pollution, thereby encouraging major polluters to invest in new technologies, or discover new ways of going about their business that will ultimately reduce the amount of CO2e currently being produced.
It is expected that this will change current competitive balances across the economy, and will impact the cost of goods and services - however "the Government will use every cent it receives from the sale of pollution permits to help households and businesses adjust and move Australia to the low pollution economy of the future."
(see pg 4 of the CPRS Executive Summary).
Accurate, auditable emissions data sourced from a national reporting framework is what will ultimately facilitate the success of the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme.
Ndevr's Greenhouse Emissions Reporting solution will ensure your emissions data is complete, accurate, and auditable.
EEO (Energy Efficiency Opportunities Program)
"Energy Efficiency Opportunities is an Australian Government initiative to help our largest energy using businesses meet the challenge of more efficient energy use. It's based on three good reasons:
1. Energy efficiency is good for the business bottom line and so for the Australian economy;
2. Energy efficiency is good for the environment – it's one of the most cost-effective ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions; and
3. Energy efficiency helps with energy security – it reduces unnecessary demand on our energy infrastructure.
It’s a rare win-win-win opportunity."
(Ali Moore - Dept of Industry Tourism and Resources)
The objective of the EEO program is to encourage companies to achieve improved efficiency from the Energy they consume, and participation in the program is mandatory for organisations who's energy consumption is over 0.5PJ per anum. As a guide to businesses, those using more than 0.5 petajoules (PJ) a year may typically have an annual energy bill of more than $1.5 million for gas, $5 million for electricity, $11 million for diesel fuel or $13 million for unleaded petrol (depending on prices). Put another way, 0.5 PJ approximately equals 139,000 MWh, 13 ML diesel, 9000 tonnes of LNG or 10,000 tonnes of LPG. (Source; Dept Energy Resources & Tourism)
The Ndevr Greenhouse Emissions Reporting solution captures energy consumtion of all forms of energy that would typically appear on an invoice, without any significant impact on business processes or duplication of data - as well as being able to capture emissions data associated with energy production.
Greenhouse Challenge Plus
The Greenhouse Challenge Plus scheme is voluntary. However, since 1 July 2006, participation in Greenhouse Challenge Plus has been a requirement for Australian companies receiving fuel excise credits of more than $3 million.
The Greenhouse Challenge Plus program requires reporting of all the same emissions that are required under the NGER Act - and the government provides spreadsheet based tools that will assist a small to medium participating organisation to record and report their emissions data - however these tools are not sufficient to report under the NGER guidelines as they do not meet the requirements of the NGER Act, that data be complete, accurate within 95%, secure and audtiable. As with accounting reports - these standards are not met by spreadsheets.
For medium to large organisations the complications of organisational boundaries, sub-contractor emissions management, and the double handling of data and financial documentation strengthens the case for using a solution that is seamlessly integrated within your ERP systems such as the Ndevr Greenhouse Emissions Reporting solution.
State Government Programs Each state government provides comprehensive information that enables businesses to reduce energy consumption, reduce water consumption, reduce waste, and recycle materials, which in turn provide opportunities to reduce costs through sustainability measures.
